To them, Parasite was worth experiencing, and not spoiling ( even though they kind of spoiled by showing a scene. ).. opposed to that certain you-know-what franchise movie where you can't help but critique/talk about in a review.

Of course, the Kubrick cult horror movie will always stand out, but Flannagan did great, both regarding King's story and Kubrick's film. The first words that came to mind when watching Doctor Sleep was that it was a great horror story that was turned into a Shining sequel. I say this because the the events from the Shining were not serving the plot of the story at all. It kinda felt as if Stephen King wanted to cash in on the success of the Shining and let it propel Doctor Sleep in the sales department.
Doctor Sleep was a fantastic story, a tale of spiritual possession and psychic vampirism that Stephen King made into his own. It would have worked without the character of Danny Torrence, or the Overlook. The end of this film didn't have to take place inside the Overlook but it did, but it really didn't have to! I think the story would have been just as good without any connection to the Shining whatsoever.
I'm not really complaining here, I'm just wondering if the Shining was used to get more people to read/watch Doctor Sleep at a time when fewer people are reading novels and fewer people are going to the movies. Gripes aside, I thought this film was wonderfully acted and it was overall very creepy. It really did get spine chilling at times and it brought King's vision to the screen in epic fashion, in terms of visual art direction, but no, it does not even come close to what Kubrick did with the first movie even though Doctor Sleep does have some scenes in it that mimic Kubrick's style.
King fans and paranormal fans will love this story and Shining fans will as well, as long as you don't expect it to match Kubrick's masterpiece and take it for what it is.

Doctor Sleep: Ký Ức Kinh hang. I was bored and tired when I thought I would play this movie and fall asleep. Nearly 3 hours later and I'm wondering how this film flew so under the radar. Great movie. Totally unexpected. I was pleasantly surprised by how good this was. I feel like people view this in two different lenses: a comparison to The Shining (1980) or a sequel with its own identity that's not trying to copy the original. It was an effective horror movie with lots of creepy moments (The True Knot cult scenes were unsettling to say the least, and gave me major "Hereditary" vibes), genuine jump scares that weren't desperate, and amazing sound editing. If you can play this in Atmos in surround sound and a good set of speakers, you're in for a treat. I give it a B+. Did anybody else like it and consider it a good horror flick?
